BRVM [The Regional Stock Exchange, Cote d’Ivoire]:
BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session today, higher than the previous day for both BRVM 10 index and BRVM Composite. BRVM 10 index rose from 266.59 to 268.45 points, a gain of 0.70%. BRVM Composite index gained 0.56% to 258.63 against 257.18 points previously. The equity market capitalization was recorded at XOF 6,381.82 billion. Likewise, the traded value was recorded at XOF 234.538 million and total volumes recorded at 202,508 shares in 205 transactions. The top security by volume and valued traded were Ecobank Transnational Incorporated Togo with 195,162 traded shares and Filtisac Cote d’Ivoire with XOF 28.170 million respectively. The market sentiment was positive today (measured as advancer/decliners ratio) with twelve advancers and five decliners. On the one hand, top price gainer was SICOR Cote d’Ivoire rose by 7.49% to close at XOF 8,900 and top price loser was Bank of Africa Senegal fell by 7.34% to close at XOF 60,000.
Botswana:
The Botswana Stock Exchange’s (BSE) domestic index went up by 33.97pts (0.35%) to close at 9,777.70pts (with year-to-year performance 2.90%) and foreign index remained the same as last previous trading day to close at 1571.11pts (year-to-date of performance -0.42%). The market capitalisation was recorded at BWP 370.388 million, the total volume and turnover were recorded at 27.464 million shares and BWP 66.729 million respectively. The market sentiment was positive today, (measure as the market breadth-: advancer/decliners ratio) with two advancers and zero decliner. Lethshego Botswana and Turnstar Botswana gained BWP 0.09 and BWP 0.01 to close at BWP 2.56 and BWP 2.21 respectively.
Egypt:
The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) announced, in a statement, that it will officially close on Sunday and Monday on the occasion of Easter and Sham El Nessim. Work in the stock market will resume Tuesday, 14 April, the statement added.
Ghana:
Ghana Stock exchange ended negative today, with the benchmark Composite index was down by 0.20pts (-0.87%) to 2,222.41pts; this brings its year-to-date performance to -1.71%. Likewise, the financial index shed off 0.88pts (-0.04%) to close at 2,238.13pts (-0.25% year-to-date performance). The market capitalization was recorded at GHS 64,158 billion. A market activity measured by volume was recorded at 1,036,991 shares changing hands in twelve shares. The market sentiment was neutral today (measured as advancer/decliners ratio) with two advancers and two decliners. Aluworks Ghana and Ecobank Ghana were the two gainers with gains of GHS 0.01 (50%) and GHS 0.03 (0.39%) to settle at GHS 0.03 and GHS 7.82 respectively. While Enterprise Group and CAL Bank Ghana lost GHS 0.61 (to trade at GHS 1.62) and GHS 0.02 (to close at GHS 1.01) respectively.
Kenya:
The NSE 20 Index advanced by 12.23pts to close at 5,136.20pts today. Likewise, Nairobi All Share Index gained 0.70pts to close at 170.31pts with total market capitalization at KES 2,377.70 billion. The market sentiment was negative today (measured as the market breadth: – advancer/decliners ratio) with fourteen advancers and twenty nine decliners. Flame Tree Group was the top gainer of the day, gaining 8.05 percent to close at KES 9.40. However, Car & General was the top loser of the day, declining by 9.55 percent to close the day at KES 45.00. The volume of shares traded went down by 64.61 percent to close at 13.44mn whereas total turnover closed at KES 615.16mn. The highest market mover was Centum with a turnover of KES 165.62mn representing 26.92 percent of total market turnover. Foreign buys stood at 55.34 percent of total turnover, while foreign sales stood at 10.52 percent of total turnover.
Malawi:
Both Malawi All Share Index and Domestic Index remained unchanged to close at 15,508.65pts and 12,221.43pts respectively. Likewise, the foreign Index remained unchanged to close at 1762.13pts.Total market capitalization was recorded at MWK 7,535.07 billion; a total volume was recorded at 175492 shares in ten transactions and turnover of MWK 317,110. The market sentiment was neutral (measured as the market breadth: – advancer/decliners ratio) with zero advancer and zero decliner.
Mauritius:
The Semdex went down by 0.47pts to close 1,953.08pts and the Sem-10 fell by 0.30% to 371.10pts. The market capitalization was recorded at MUR 218.138 billion and overall turnover on the official market was recorded at MUR 143.874 million, geared towards MCB Group Mauritius which accounted for 86.4% of total market turnover. The market sentiment was negative today (measured as the market breadth advancer/decliners ratio) with five advancers and eleven decliners. Topping the gainers list were Sanlam Africa, Policy Mauritius and Air Mauritius advanced by 5.61% (to close at US$ 6.02), 2.86% (to settle at MUR 7.20) and 0.76% (to trade at MUR 13.20) respectively. On the other hand, topping the losers were Gamma Civil fell by 9.01% to close at MUR 32.30, Bluelife Mauritius decreased by 6.37% to close at MUR 5.00 and Lottotech Mauritius declined by 4.33% to trade at MUR 5.74.
Morocco:
Morocco’s benchmark stock index (MASI Index) advanced by 0.21% to close at 9,909.79pts (3.01% year-to-date performance) with total market capitalization at MAD 500.700 billion and market activities measured as total traded value was closed at MAD 28.022 million. Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 8,133.53pts (rose by 0.24% compared to previous trading day). In term of sector performance, top gainers were Construction & Building Materials, Food Producers & Processors and Real Estate sectors advanced by 1.43%, 0.88% and 0.53% respectively. On the losers’ chart were Transportation, Investment Companies & Other Finance and Engineering & Equipment Industrial Goods sectors declined by 2.45%, 0.96% and 0.63% respectively. The market sentiment was negative today, as the market breadth (advancer/decliners ratio) with eleven advancers and sixteen decliners. Alliances Development Immobilier Morocco tops price gainers rose by 10.00% to close at MAD 110.00 while IB Maroc tops the price losers fell by 5.99% to close at MAD 96.6. Furthermore, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index rose by 0.08% to close at 8,748.80pts (-0.81% year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index rose 0.38% to close at 8,380.93pts (3.97% year-to-date performance).
Namibia:
Namibia Overall Index fell by 3.69pts (-0.31%) to close at 1,171.00pts but Namibia domestic index rose by 0.06pts (0.01%) to close at 429.57pts. The market sentiment was negative today (measured as market breadth advancer/decliners ratio) with 10 advancers and 11 decliners. On the one hand, topping the gainers list were African Oxygen, NMI Holdings Limited Namibia and Bannerman gained 5.09% to close at NAD 1,455.00, 2.81% to settle at NAD 3,475.00 and 2.22% to trade at NAD 46.00 respectively. On the other hand, topping the price losers were Deep Yellow Limited Namibia (lost 8.33% to close at NAD 11.00), Sanlam Namibia (fell by 3.80% to close at NAD 7,793.00) and Trustco Group Holdings Limited Namibia (decreased by 3.35% to trade at NAD 328.00).
Nigeria:
The Nigerian Equities Market opened the week on a positive note as the All Share Index appreciated 0.7% to close at 35,190.23. Market Capitalization also grew by NGN 88.6 billion and closed at NGN 11.9 trillion. Today’s positive close was majorly driven by appreciation in Nigerian Breweries (rose by 3.8%), Guaranty Trust Bank (gained 2.3%) and Zenith Bank Nigeria (advanced by 1.6%). Market Activity as measured by volume and value declined by 78.8% and 42.6% accordingly after 344.7 million shares worth NGN 4.7 trillion were traded. Likewise, all sector indices within the market closed north, the Banking sector index led the gainers rising 1.9% and the Industrial Goods sector index also gained 1.7% due to gains in WAPCO (increased by 3.3%). Similarly, Consumer Goods index gained 0.6%, Insurance index rose by 0.6% and the Oil and gas index went up 0.2% followed in that order. Meanwhile, market breadth (advancers/decliners ratio) closed positive at 1.9x, with 33 advancers against 17 decliners. At the close of trading today, the best performers’ list was led by Wema Bank Nigeria (+5.3%), Beta Glass Nigeria (+5.0%) and Fidelity Bank of Nigeria (+5.0%) while Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (-5.1%), Nestle Nigeria (-5.0%) and Berger Paints Nigeria (-5.0%) topped worst performers’ list.
Rwanda:
The Rwandan Stock Exchange All Share Index (RSE ALSI) remained unchanged to close the day at 137.16pts but RSE RSI went up by 0.26pts to 233.40pts respectively. The market capitalisation was recorded at RWF 2,296 billion and market activities measured as total volume and trade value were recorded at 4.496 million shares (in nine transactions) and RWF 1,332.472 million. In addition, Bank of Kigali was the top gainer of the day, rising by 0.34 percent to close the day at RWF 296.00
South Africa:
The Jonesburg Stock Exchange All Share index closed 0.32% higher, with 2.64% gains in gold shares leading the local bourse upwards. The market sentiment was positive today, as the market breadth (advancer/decliners ratio) with 195 advancers and 194 decliners. On the top ten gainers list was Sasol, whose shares rose 4.91% to sell at ZAR 444.54 after 2,393,035 shares were exchanged in 8,088 deals today. Also on the list was Cognition Holdings, whose shares climbed to ZAR 2.30 after 13 deals traded 141,559 shares, a boost in the share price of 6.98%. Kumba Iron Ore was amongst the biggest movers downwards, as shares slid 6.29% to ZAR 127.44 after investors bought and sold 966,801 shares in 4,946 deals. After 643 deals exchanged a total of 1,239,318 shares, Curro Holdings fell 9.32% to ZAR 33.55.
Tanzania:
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSEI) declined by 8.29pts (0.33%) to close at 2,684.22pts and market capitalization recorded at TZS 23,501.80 billion. Likewise, the DSE TSI fell by 59.50pts (1.23%) to close at 4,819.55pts. Today, DSE recorded a total turnover of TZS 47.19 million from 34,064 shares traded in 41 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 7,080.57 million from 496,133 shares traded in 67 deals. The market sentiment was positive today, with six advancers and four decliners. The top gainer of the day was CRDB Bank, edging up by 1.23 percent to close at TZS 410.00 and TOL gasses was the top loser declining by 5.50 percent to close the day at TZS 515.00.
Tunisia:
The Tunis Stock Exchange benchmark index (TUNINDEX) rose by 9.74pts (0.18%) to close at 5,389.04pts (year-to-date performance of 5.85%) with the market capitalization at TND 18.28 billion. Today’s turnover amounted to TND 7.225 million, while traded volume 1.227 million shares. The market sentiment was negative today (measured as market breadth advancer/decliners ratio) with 15 advancers and 26 decliners. On the one hand, topping the price gainers were Tunisia (advanced by 12.22% to close at TND 22.86), Banque de Tunisie et des Emirats (gained 7.14% to trade at TND 21.00) and Carthage Cement Tunisia (advanced by 5.88% to close at TND 1.98). On the other hand, topping the price losers were Societe Tunisienne d’Equipement, Maghreb International Publicite Tunisia and TelNet Holdings Tunisia fell by 25.56% (to close at TND 6.00), 6.67% (to trade at TND 1.4) and 5.48% (to settle at TND 4.66).
Uganda:
The Uganda Securities Exchange All Share Index (USE ALSI) went up by 16.91pts (0.84%) to close at 2,034.26pts with market capitalization recorded at UGX 27,576 million. However, the Ugandan Stock Exchange Local Share Index (USE LSI) remained unchanged to close the day at 324.14pts. A total of 1.74 million shares were traded today and total turnover came to a close of UGX 820.58 million. The market sentiment was neutral today, with zero advancer and zero decliner.
Zambia:
The Lusaka Stock Exchange All Share Index went down by 0.19pts to close at 6,103.61pts in comparison to the previous close. The market capitalization was recorded at ZMK 65.405 billion, including Shoprite Holdings Plc, and ZMK 31.165 billion excluding Shoprite Holdings Plc. A total of 51,956 shares were transacted in124 trades, yielding a total market turnover of ZMK 236,043. Trading was recorded in British American Tobacco Zambia, Copperbelt Energy Corporation, Lafarge Cement Zambia, Madison Financial Services Plc Zambia, National Breweries Zambia, and ZANACO. A share price loss of ZMK 0.03 was recorded in Copperbelt Energy Corporation to close at ZMK 0.64.
Zimbabwe:
The Industrial index closed higher by gaining 0.52pts (0.33%) to close at 157.03pts, with total market capitalization of US$4.073 billion. Today’s total turnover was recorded at US$1.258 million in 14 transactions. The market sentiment was neutral today, with two advancers and two decliners. National Foods Zimbabwe move up 16 cents to trade at 316 cents and Innscor Zimbabwe was up 0.40 cents to close at 56 cents. Whereas, Zimplow Holdings Limited Zimbabwe and Masimba Holdings Limited Zimbabwe lost a cents and 0.15 cents to close at 6.80 cents and 2.10 cents respectively. Meanwhile, the Mining index remained flat to closet at 34.31.
